Valery Aliev

Valery Aliev was born in 1951, and graduated from Nizhny Novgorod Conservatory (Moscow) in 1981; there he studied voice with Professors Y.Krestinsky and Y.Jofel. Upon graduation, Aliev moved to Kaliningrad, and became a soloist with the Kaliningrad Philharmonic Society, and performed in numerous solo recitals.

Among the awards he has received include 2nd Prize at the 1st National Chamber Vocal Competition in Leningrad (1982); 3rd Prize at the 11th Glinka National Vocal Competition, in the chamber division; Honorary Diploma at the Francico Vinas International Competition in Barcelona (1986) - which subsequently led to performances in Barcelona of Verdi's Requiem; and the Gold Prize at the 1991 International Festival of Spiritual Music in Czenstochowa, Poland.

Since then, Aliev has toured throughout Russia - with numerous performances in the largest halls of Moscow and St. Petersburg - as well as in Germany, Holland, Bulgaria, and Poland. His wide range and timbral flexibility allows Aliev to work in a diverse repertory - from Bach cantatas and Handel oratorios to Romantic masterworks (Verdi's Requiem, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Schubert lieder), to the gems from the Russian song literature - such as are featured here at the Classical Archives.
